I unexpectedly arrived in Sicily on the Solstice. I unexpectedly arrived in Sicily on the Solstice.
A family emergency brought my brother and I here. We drove to the airport in the early hours of the morning under a seemingly huge orange slice waxing gibbous moon and arrived into the parched heat and blooming flowers on this beautiful Island.
My father is now out of hospital and we will return together in a couple of days.
My brother says that he’s here to do what’s needed practically and I’m here to hold space! (which seems to include a lot of washing up 🤣). Both are needed.
This is the reason we came to live in England. We miss many parts of our life in Australia; the last few years have been a sort of grieving process for what was and might have been.
But being available and present for the family gatherings, celebrations and holidays, and for the scares and sickness and emergencies is why we came.
And having a few days in Sicily now that all is well is a glorious treat!
PRESENCE now starts on July 5th 😉
I describe holding space as an art, a craft and a I describe holding space as an art, a craft and a skill.
This is my attempt to capture the unique artistry of an individual meeting themselves or another in those moments of sweetness and sourness, in grief and gratitude or in joy and despair.
It is my attempt to articulate that companioning oneself or others flows from crafting connection and trust.
It is also my attempt to describe the willingness, practice and reflection required to refine our space holding skills.
The most resourced and generous space holding I have experienced is by those who have met the fullness of themselves through the seasons of their lives. Those humans who have been:
Blown around by the winds of change
Drowned by the deep waters of grief
Buried in the sinking sands of despair
Forged in the fires of rage
Initiated in love and joy
And are still meeting themselves and holding others through it all.
Our capacity to hold space for ourselves, each other and for the world we envisage to take form, may be our most sacred contribution to these wild times.
The next round of PRESENCE begins in Circle on Tuesday. Are you joining us? Link in bio @circleschoolwithmitle for full details 💚

@evaglamaris my teacher, mentor and friend. Readin @evaglamaris my teacher, mentor and friend. Reading Eva’s words tonight was a gift.
I long for the world that Eva envisages; a world in which we honour our interdependence and community care is at the heart of all that we do.
Eva models this with grace, and devotion to the collective.
For those taking part in Presence, we have a conversation with Eva as part of our journey.
I invite you to read the full post @evaglamaris 💚

If you exist as a human in a highly independent individualized oppressive culture AND if you are ‘going through it’ you might be able to identify with what I’m about to share. I’ve sat on this for about a week wrestling with the complexity that surrounds asking for help.
💙
Asking for help, particularly when there’s a dollar sign attached to it is deemed shameful. We rather struggle in silence, on our own, fearing not only our self-judgment but the judgment of those around us, who might believe, the same way we do, that there must be something wrong with us and our methods of creating sustenance.
😔
This is the narrative we have been conditioned to believe as truth.
💙
Yet, the real truth, beyond the conditioning, is that I need help. This Spring hit our family in ways that feel unimaginable. Among others, there was a car accident that laid my partner off work for two months, mental health crises, an insurance lapse, the sudden tragic death of a family member, the flu, the virus… and to that, add a spiritual unfolding that asked me to pause my work and redirect all my efforts to creating a new body of work (not yet concretized) that will serve me and the collective in a more ‘aligned with my soul’s blueprint’ way.
✨
If you’ve been here for a while you know the framework I move from is an Indigenous one. The reclamation and remembrance of my identity as Indigenous awakened my attunement to living life from this way of being- Relationality, Reciprocity, Cyclicity, Seasonality, Interdependence, Simplicity, and Communal Care.

How do we hold space for change? I love working w How do we hold space for change?
I love working with provocations; questions for which an answer may not be available to us yet or ever, or questions to which the possible answers are vast and varied.
The questions themselves can be deceptively simple; prompting us to seek a simple and complete response.
But the magic and the medicine lies in curiosity.
It is in the exploration of possibility and playing with the unexpected that we have a chance at finding a truthful response.
PRESENCE is a journey through daily provocations. These are offered as invitations of personal potentiality rather than essay questions that require a definitive answer.
Perhaps we think we know what it means to be compassionate, to define boundaries or to be intuitive.
What happens when we put our learnt and practiced answers to one side and choose to be present with the question?
As space holders in wild times, lets reconsider what we think we know and see what lies in the space between knowing and unknowing.
Perhaps in this way, we cultivate the capacity to hold space for the change we long for.

PRESENCE is open for enrolment for a few more days. We begin on June 21st for a 14-day immersion into deepening our capacity to hold space for ourselves so we can hold space for change. Link for full details in bio @circleschoolwithmitle
